Medicare Supplemental Insurance Provides Peace of Mind

Published Categorized as Journal

Now that Jim and I are retired, we want to enjoy the money we worked so hard to earn rather than having to spend it on medical emergencies. That’s why we thought it was so important to invest in medicare supplement plans insurance. Both of us are enrolled in Medicare, but we realize that Medicare simply doesn’t cover every health care cost. When friends say that they can’t afford another healthcare insurance policy, we tell them how can they afford not to have one, because just one medical emergency could wipe out their savings!

There’s a good reason why medicare supplemental insurance is often referred to as Medigap insurance, because that’s what it’s designed to do. Cover any existing gaps in your Medicare Parts A & B coverage. But what I like best about having medicare supplemental insurance is the peace of mind that comes with knowing that our out of pocket expenditures for healthcare costs over the coming year will be minimal.

I think a lot of older folks are intimidated by all the confusing information out there regarding supplemental insurance policies for Medicare. But when Jim and I first began researching Medigap policies, we found that the private insurance companies offering this type of coverage were more than happy to sit down with us and fully explain all of our options in addition to answering all of our questions.

Since traveling on holiday at least once a year to Europe has been one of the perks of being retired, we chose a medicare supplemental insurance policy that included foreign emergency medical care while traveling. After Jim twisted his ankle last year and had to spend time recuperating at home, we felt it was also important to have supplemental coverage that included such at home recovery costs as physical therapy and nurse visits. The important point is, seniors can get medicare supplemental insurance with those benefits that will give them the most peace of mind.
